“Evan, A Survivor's Story” is a documentary about a Kurdish journalist whose work filming and reporting on ISIS leads to threats to his life. He flees to the safety of Europe. The film reflects his struggle to learn English and not to lose hope despite the absurdities of the immigration system. This is a story of courage, love and survival, a story of Kurds everywhere and immigrants around the world.

Unable to travel around the world, I decided to travel around the statue of the Ferdinand Magelan, the first man who (kind of...) circumnavigated the world, 500 years ago. Antonio Pigafetta, who accompanied Magellan, wrote in “Relazione del primo viaggio intorno al mondo” and it's through his words I find the migrants who inhabit my neighbourhood in Lisbon.

In his early twenties Addai leaves his entire life behind and moves to Syria to help victims of the civil war. At first he is assigned kitchen duty together with Ilias. Addai writes to his mother: “Don’t worry about me, I’m fine.” Two years later Addai’s mother receives a letter from prison. Ilias has been sentenced for terrorism by a German court. He wants to meet her and writes: “One thing you have to believe me, we went there with good intentions.”

Esther Niemeier is a director and producer working in both the UK and Germany. Her first short documentary “Walz” screened in the official selection at the Edinburgh International Film Festival and was picked up for broadcast by Canal+, Future Shorts and Okto TV throughout Europe. Juan Antonio Moreno Amador is director, scriptwriter and producer. His productions have been selected in more than 300 international festivals and have received more than 50 prizes. Carlos III University of Madrid gave him the Excellence Award for his career and in 2008 he received Reina Sofía Social Communication Award. Moreno has studied Library and Information Sciences, Script, Journalism and International Relations. He teaches at the Documentary Master Degree and at Carlos III University and at the Lens School. In 2010 he founded the production company Making DOC and he is member of the European Film Academy and of the Spanish Film Academy.

Julien Paillet and Thomas Robineau met in high school in 2008. They are both passionate about cinema and promised to make movies. Julien then enrolled at the film school in Bordeaux and wrote for Transfuse and Le Journal du Geek. Thomas, after an audiovisual BTS, integrates the assembly section of Fémis in Paris. He is now editor and assistant editor. The two meet regularly to direct short films and dream of feature films. “Captain France”, shot in 2018, is their most ambitious project.
